Whether it’s for security, a change of scenery, filming a new movie or because touring the globe means they’re never at home very long, A-listers know how to pay the big bucks for a plush pad.
Here are five big-name stars currently members of generation rent.
Justin Bieber
Rent: $35,000 a month
Justin Bieber rented a Beverly Hills Ed Nile-designed glass house in 2014.
Known as the Salad Spinner, the six-bedroom, six-bathroom home is a landmark in the area and he paid $60,000 a month to live there.
It was reportedly trashed early this year by another star during a party which Bieber attended.
Since then, J-Beebs has rented the stylish San Circle House, also in Beverly Hills, for a decidedly smaller sum – $35,000 a month. The new five-bedroom, five-bathroom home has balconies across the entire second floor, a swimming pool, media room and spa.
Beyoncé and Jay Z
Rent: $150,000 a month
In February it emerged that star couple Beyonce and Jay Z were renting a Los Angeles mansion for $150,000 a month.
With seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, tennis court and infinity pool, the luxury home is currently listed for sale at $35.5 million.
But the power duo may actually be climbing off of the rental roundabout, with reports from Curbed that Beyonce’s management company is given as the mailing address of a recently sold Spanish baroque-style residence in New Orleans. It had a $2.5 million asking price.
Rihanna
Rent: $60,000 a month
In mid-2014, Rihanna reportedly moved into a “modern acropolis” in Los Angeles after security breaches caused her to leave the property she owned.
The seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom rental included 18-metre high ceilings, a gym, sauna, 12-person spa and pool.
The home was built in 1996 for a German businessman.
Lady Gaga
Rent: $22,000 a month
Lady Gaga moved in to the two-bedroom, two-bathroom duplex penthouse on New Yorks Central Park, two years ago.
In that time Oprah interviewed Lady Gaga there, while a host of other stars lived in the apartment prior to Mother Monster, including Liza Minelli and Louis Armstrong.
Chloe Moretz
Rent: $11,000 a month (advertised rental price)
Young starlet Chloe Moretz began renting a house in LA with her family in September 2014, according to Variety. The 18-year-old actor has only just bought her first car but has already forged a name for herself in films such as Kick-Ass, If I Stay and Carrie.
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom house is walled and gated, with a pool and cabana. Designed in a French architectural style, it includes views of Stone Canyon Reservoir.
