The five-bedroom, three-storey house has marble floors throughout – including the garage and driveways – and glass mosaics lining its in its ponds and second-floor spa, which overlooks the coast.

It is partially powered by photovoltaics and also has a 10-car display garage, bar, gym, study, sitting room and indoor entertaining room, and its lights, TVs, security system, doors, blinds, curtains and water feature are all iPad-controlled.

The judges called it both glamorous and liveable, impressed by its “faultless workmanship, attention to detail and high quality finishes such as marble flooring and stone cladding.”

Averna Homes won Australian Spec Home, an award for a house not built to a client’s brief, for Villa Nero in Carine.

The four-bedroom two-storey family home’s black-rendered box shape and white porcelain facade were designed for its long narrow block.

It was described as a modern and ‘street-smart’ home that cleverly balanced dark and light tones with crafted timbers and distinctive renders – its taps, shower roses, light switches and kitchen sink are all in black or inky shades, with more dark colours used to accent the outdoor areas.

Judges commented on the thought given to material selection.

The award followed Averna’s win last year of Custom Spec Home of the Year.
