Federal Labor pledges $1m to look at sinking Bayswater train station in Perth’s east

THE Federal Labor Party will spend $1 million on a City of Bayswater structure plan to look at sinking the plagued train station and redeveloping the town centre.

In its only major election promise to Bayswater to date, Federal Labor have promised to add to the existing $120,000 plan to look at extending tunnelling to be carried out as part of the Forrestfield Airport Link.

The City of Bayswater awarded a tender for the structure plan to company TPG last month.

The tender appointment was previously deferred because some community members were concerned about the scope, but the State Department of Planning has since endorsed it.

Federal Perth Labor candidate Tim Hammond said major tunnelling works near Bayswater station for the Forrestfield Airport Link presented a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for redevelopment in Bayswater.

“There are going to be limitations on what $120,000 can get you in the context of a structure plan,” he said.
